Say who?

My name is Koen Janssens, and I am a 43yo Belgian guy, father of three energetic young girls. I work as a physical therapist in the University Hospital of Leuven (Gasthuisberg), and as a research assistant at Mobilab & Care (at the Thomas More University College). Aside that I am a Crossfit Level1 Trainer at the beautiful Super7-boxes (to be found in Leuven and in Aarschot), and I am a post-rehabilitation personal trainer, which means I coach and push you at home in the phase between rehab and gym.

My hobbies include cooking, and extensively cleaning up after my kids.

My friends call me extreme stubborn, and for once, this will be a good feature...

Say what?

During lockdown I needed to find a way to train again, without a gym and with the kids home all day long. So on April, 26th I started with doing 3 rounds of Adapted Cindy (1 round = 5 table rows, 10 push-ups and 15 air squats) every hour for 10 hours a day, and this took me just about 2.5 minutes each hour, which was feasible with the kids around, in stead of trying to find a full hour of training time a day.

And I did it again the next day, and again and again. And after 10 days I had done 3000 push-ups. At that time I questioned myself if I could do this every day, for one year long, and reach 100.000 push-ups. Since I am stubborn, yes... But why not try to support charity with it... Hence, this project N° 110333234 :-)

I started recording the reps from May, 11th because if you support my charity, I want you to be able to really see that I perform all reps in honor of your donation, and you don't just have to belief me saying I did them. So, let's call the first 4500 reps a nice warm-up... :-s

Say why?

Why "Kom Op Tegen Kanker" (Fight against Cancer)?

Thirteen years ago I battled and conquered testicular cancer myself, and lost my father two years ago to it (and many other dear family members). I regularly donate my hair to Think Pink (which length you will be able to follow in the year long video's), but that is hardly a significant effort, since it quite grows by itself. Therefore I wanted to step up a bit, and actively wanted to raise money for this goal. I also saw that due to Covid-19 a lot of big fundraising events were cancelled for 2020.  That encouraged me even more to set up my own, social distance approved, fund-raise action!

Why Push-Ups?

Firstly, Push-Ups are great, easy and cheap! You can do them anywhere and anytime, all you need is your own body and a floor, two items that are normally present (unless you are a very very great zen-yogaist).

Secondly, when life or cancer or whatever knocks you down, the push-up is the first thing that gets you up from the ground. And you rise again, above your problems, and you push yourself to become the best version of yourself.

Thirdly, I like them A LOT MORE than cardio, so no miles of running or biking here! ;-)
